What is a FastPass certificate and how do I earn one?
Quick answer: In cities that offer it, a FastPass is a certificate you earn by fixing your plans after a PreCheck and re-checking them. When a re-check shows you finished enough of the earlier round's work, the results say You earned a FastPass certificate. Click Download certificate (PDF) or Printable page and attach it to your building plan check submittal.
How to earn one
- Run a PreCheck on the city's PreCheck page. The first results show the target: how much of the work you need to finish to earn a FastPass. The share is set by the city.
- Work through the items in Your brief.
- Re-check the revised set at the same address with Re-check your revised plans. See What happens after you submit.
- If you finished enough of the earlier round's work, the results show You earned a FastPass certificate. A partly done item counts as half.

How to use it
Attach the certificate to your building plan check submittal to the city. It shows the plan checker that your set went through PreCheck. The city gives FastPass plan sets priority review; there's no promised turnaround, and it isn't an approval. Timing questions go to the city.
What it shows
The address and parcel number, both rounds and their dates, how much of the earlier round's work was done, the issue date, and a certificate code.
Check a certificate
Anyone can check a code at /fastpass/verify: enter the Certificate code (it looks like FP-7K3M-Q9XD-4H2A) and click Check code.
Good to know
- A corrections read doesn't earn a FastPass; it comes from a pre-check followed by a re-check.
- A certificate can be voided; the results then say so.
