What happens after I submit through a city portal?
Quick answer: Your submission goes into the city's reviewer queue alongside your AI pre-check report. The city reviews, then either approves, requests corrections, or rejects. You see status updates in Projects and get emails when things change.
The city-side flow
- Intake. Your plans + pre-check land in the reviewer's dashboard the moment you submit.
- Reviewer opens your project. They use the AI findings as a starting point, but they can add their own comments or override anything.
- Outcome. One of three things happens:
- Approved — you can pull your permit.
- Corrections issued — the reviewer writes a comment letter. You'll get it in-app and by email.
- Rejected — rare; the reviewer will explain.
How you hear back
- In-app. The project status on your Projects dashboard updates from "Submitted" to "Under Review" to the final outcome.
- Email. If Review Complete is on, you get an email when the status changes.
If you get a corrections letter
You can pull the letter into CrossBeam and have AI draft your response:
- Click + New Project → Analyze Corrections.
- Upload the corrections letter PDF.
- Answer any clarifying questions the AI asks.
- Download the response package.
See Analyze a corrections letter.
Timelines
City review times vary a lot by jurisdiction and workload — anywhere from a few days to several weeks. CrossBeam doesn't set the timeline; the city does. Check with the city directly if you need a status update beyond what the dashboard shows.
