How do I round-trip findings through Bluebeam?

Quick answer: The Bluebeam dropdown (top-right of the Findings tab) has two actions: Export to Bluebeam and Import from Bluebeam. Export sends your AI findings into Bluebeam as markups; a reviewer edits them in Bluebeam; Import pulls the updated markups back into CrossBeam. Once imported, you'll see an accepted/rejected/modified/added tally and can click Finalize & Issue to generate the corrections letter.

When to use it

  • You're a builder who wants to hand the AI findings to your in-house reviewer or design professional for sign-off before submittal.
  • You're working with a city that uses Bluebeam Cloud or Revu as their review tool.
  • You want to edit markup positions / text in Bluebeam instead of CrossBeam.

Export to Bluebeam

  1. On the Findings tab, click Bluebeam top-right.
  2. Pick Export to Bluebeam from the dropdown.
  3. CrossBeam generates a markup file (XFDF) containing every finding as a Bluebeam annotation, anchored to the correct sheet and location.
  4. In Bluebeam Revu: open your plan set → File → Import → Markups → pick the XFDF.
  5. In Bluebeam Cloud: open your Studio session → Markups → Import → pick the XFDF.

Each annotation is editable on the Bluebeam side — the reviewer can accept, reject, modify, or add their own.

Import from Bluebeam

After the reviewer is done:

  1. Export the reviewer's marked-up PDF from Bluebeam.
  2. On the same Findings tab, click BluebeamImport from Bluebeam.
  3. Pick the marked-up PDF.
  4. CrossBeam parses it and shows a tally:
    • Accepted — the reviewer kept the AI finding as-is.
    • Rejected — the reviewer dismissed it.
    • Modified — the reviewer edited the text; CrossBeam adopts their version.
    • Reviewer added — new markups the reviewer created that weren't in the AI findings; CrossBeam ingests them as new findings.
  5. The verification state on each finding updates to reflect the reviewer's decision (verified / dismissed / edited).
  6. Click Finalize & Issue to generate a corrections letter that reflects the reviewer's pass.

Tested vs. untested

  • Bluebeam Cloud round-trip: validated.
  • Bluebeam Revu desktop round-trip: works in dry runs but not yet fully validated. Tell the team if you hit anything weird.

What rides along

  • Every annotation has the finding's pin number, title, status color, and the AI's suggested response.
  • Sheet anchors are preserved — an annotation created against CS page 1 will come back on CS page 1.
  • Custom Bluebeam markup properties (author, date, status) are honored on import.

Limits

  • Images / photos attached to a Bluebeam markup aren't imported; only the text and position.
  • If the reviewer changes the sheet a markup belongs to, CrossBeam tries to match by sheet ID — if that fails, the finding becomes a "Reviewer added" item.
