How do I modify the text of a finding?
Quick answer: Expand a finding, click Modify, and an inline textarea opens pre-filled with the AI's Required Action text. Rewrite it to match your city's language or to fix an AI misread, then click the send icon (paper airplane) to save. The modified text is what goes into the issued corrections letter.
Steps
- Click the finding card to expand it — you'll see the Required Action block and the action row (Accept / Reject / Modify / Skip).
- Click Modify.
- An inline textarea appears, pre-filled with the current Required Action text.
- Rewrite as needed — you can keep, change, or completely replace the language. Keep code citations you want the builder to see.
- Click the send icon (paper airplane, bottom-right of the textarea) to save.
- The card now shows your modified text; the finding's state becomes modified and it ticks the progress ring.
When to modify vs. accept or reject
- Modify when you mostly agree but the wording isn't right for your department.
- Accept when the AI's text is already something you'd send as-is.
- Reject when the finding is wrong or not code-required; CrossBeam asks for a reason and keeps the rejected item in the collapsed Rejected group.
- Skip when you want to decide later without saving a decision.
Modify stacks with triage
A modified finding is still a positive triage state — it counts toward the progress ring and appears in the issued letter. You can modify it as many times as you want before Finalize.
